Into the Woods... - Version 2.4 Clarifications Update
Into the Woods... » Devlog
Hello All!
Today's update of Into the Woods... has seen us move from version 2.3 to 2.4. For those of you on the old version, there is no reason to update unless you would like the newly clarified text. Both the regular and plain version of the rules received identical updates. Here I will outline all of the changes made in this version:
- Page 5 had a "duplicate paragraph" that was overly redundant. I have some redundancy in the text on purpose to make rules extra clear, but this had no reason to be there. So I cut it.
- On page 9 I have clarified how the "Spades" column works when applying descriptive modifiers to encounters. Sometimes these are ignored or modified further as indicated by a specific entry. Please be sure to read each encounter carefully.
- Weather has been changed to have two categories: Primary Weather Effects and Secondary Weather Effects. This was done to make it more clear what elements of weather were negated by specific items such as the Raincoat. All items referencing weather outside of the example play section (it was not relevant to update that) now reflect this change.
- A small typo has been fixed on page 13 (Their -> There).
- Again, all weather related items have been updated in the "equipment section" to include the new wording.
- The FAQ section was also updated for weather related questions.
- Additional clarification has been added on page 14 for opposed rolls. It should now be clear that you are not looking for a success or failure like you are for a skill check and instead just referencing the highest modified numerical value for each party. Furthermore, I have clarified that when a creature or player's health is lowered as a result of an opposed roll, it is always reduced by 1 unless otherwise indicated by the specific encounter.
- The Mutated trait has been updated on page 32. It was poorly worded and confusing. It should now be more clear that you are using a die to effectively "draw" a new "spade" result for the creature to add on top of its current effects.
- Bestiary item "Wolf Pack" on page 44 saw its language modified to use less ambiguous language. It is now clear who is being impacted by what and when.
- The FAQ section has been updated to clarify the "cunning" trait as it is a unique circumstance. The trait refers to a type of encounter not found in the base game, but the wording is relevant for future updates. While playing the base game though, it is effectively a +1 to Spirit but with narrative implications that you should take advantage of if you are journaling.
This should be everything. Thank you to user Schweik for emailing me about clarification regarding the rules and inspiring these changes with your feedback. I have added your name to the thank you section on the game's page. Until next time folks!
